Driftwood

I used to be a tree,
Part of something greater-
Connected to the sky.

Now I'm just a branch,
Floating in the sea,
Growing worn and smooth,
Washed up on the beach.
Waiting for hands,
To pluck me from my sleep,
Throw me in the fire,
Just to watch me burn.

The storm broke me,
The waters washed me clean-
The fire sets us free.
